“Let the world burn through you. Throw the prism light, white hot, on paper.” ~ Ray Bradbury
ABOUT ME
Jalyn Renae Fiske earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College in 2017. That same year, she began her tenure as Fiction Editor for James Gunn's Ad Astra magazine. She is an alum of several writing workshops with the Gunn Center for the Study of Science Fiction, the Ad Astra Institute for Science Fiction and the Speculative Imagination, Betsy James's Gateworld, and G.G Silverman's Women's Year-Long Short Fiction Intensive.
She likes to read and write the gamut of speculative fiction from dragons to ghosts to AI, with themes that explore loss, otherness, and challenging the status quo. Often her writing explores societal constructs and asks the reader to re-examine what they value and what they disregard--and why. Her work has appeared internationally online and in print in such publications as The Science Fiction Tarot anthology, Sword and Sorceries Vol.7, Allegory, Wyldblood, Mythaxis, and The Overcast podcast. Her first short story collection, Side Quest: Stories, will be published later this fall. Jalyn resides in Texas with her life partner, three rescue cats, and a mountain of unread books.
Check out her interview with West Texas Wordsmith that aired in July 2019.
And her reading of "Verity's Faery Teas" on YouTube for Girl Cooties.
**In case there's any confusion, I changed my nom de plume (fancy!) from J.N. Powell to Jalyn Renae Fiske. All works published in 2020 forward are under the new name.
